In WW2, Japanese army developed various tanks. How about JSDF ?
JSDF continue to develop original Japanese tank now ^^ This tank “Type 61” is the first tank that Japan develop after WW2.
After WW2, Japan used American tanks, M4 Shaman and M24. But they were old, and it is difficult to get New American tanks, because America focused on Europe and send new tanks to there. So Japan should develop original tank to resist Soviet T-34 by self.
In 1955, development of original tank has begun. Concept are light and 90mm gun.
Why focused on light ? Tank should have heavy armor.
In this time, Japanese infrastructures were poor, almost nature loads and wooden bridges.
In 1962, first original Japanese tank was completed after WW2. It means Japan regained technology.
But in this time, world tanks trend was changed rapidly, almost same time T-62 was produced. Type 62 did not have enough ability to fight it.
So Japan should developed new tank in a hurry to counter T-62.
