The oldest work that sot in Cape Irago is in Manyoshu. The waka poem was written in 675.
The poem was written by noble who exiled person from Kyoto.
What’ mean ?
In english, “I regret this short life, get wet in the wave and eat sea weed in Irago”.
The most famous work is poem of “Yashinomi(palm fruits)” that written by Touson Shimazaki. In 1898, his friend Kunio Yanagida(famous Japanese folklorist) visited there. He told to Touson “palm fruits flow at Irago’s coast”. Tosuson imaged this landscape, he wrote the poem.
In 1936, this poem had a song. The melody is sorrow and beautiful.
Difficult Japanese….
One of a palm fruit that flow from a distant island, you left home for months. When I lift up the palm, my home is reflected in my heart……..Is it like this ?
I visited this spot in winter. It is too cold ! If you are interested in there, please come in spring or summer ^^
