“train like a matchbox” it is words that symbolizes the train that was in Matsuyama Ehime. Soseki lived in Matsuyama as english teacher in 1895～1896. His work “Botchan” is based on this experience. He took the “matchbox train” and used Dogo-onsen.
The train, locomotive were made in Germany and used 1888～1954. In 2001, Matsuyama city revived it as a city train.
Is the revival train locomotive ?
It is diesel. City consider clean air.
Dogo-Onsen is the oldest Japanese hot spring spot. It has over 3,000years history, many ruins are there. Now famous building was built in 1894.
Soseki came right after this building was built, good timing !
It is lucky for Souseki and Dogo-onsen^^
