Sapporo Clock Tower (Never say disappointing spot ! )

What do you think Sapporo tourist attraction ? This clock tower is the symbol .

The design is near Old Western American building.

The clock tower is built as Sapporo Agricultural College former theatrical hall in 1878. The school is current Hokkaido university.

1F was used as library and laboratory. 2F was used as hall and army training room. Now there are museum and used event hall.

First time, the clock tower had not clock, only bell. The clock and tower are built in 1881 ordered by Kiyotaka-Kuroda（Hokkaido Secretary) and Mr. Wheeler（vice-principal) .The clock is made in USA Howard Company.

After Hokkaido university moved, the Clock Tower used as Sapporo city library, meeting place, music hall. Sometime the clock break down, citizen repaired it.

As Sapporo city develops, clock tower is surrounded mega buildings. So some people say ” Where is clock tower ? Too small !! This is disappointing spot… ”

But it is no drought that Clock Tower is center of Sapporo, the mega building is clock tower’s children.

The clock tower will tick Sapporo future.
